PMS (premenstrual syndrome) is the milder form, affecting up to 75% of all women, while the more severe form, PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder), affects 3–8%.
The most common physical symptoms are breast tenderness, bloating, abdominal pain, weight gain, headaches, increased appetite, and low energy. Psychological symptoms include irritability, mood swings, depression, anxiety, and inner restlessness. Some women may also experience suicidal thoughts during these days. The cause is related to hormonal fluctuations. Effective help is available—you don’t have to suffer every month.
