About vulval conditions
Complex conditions such as vulval disease require a multidisciplinary approach. Our multidisciplinary team therefore includes a gynaecologist, dermatologist, sexologist, psychologist and pelvic floor physiotherapist. Depending on the vulvovaginal condition and diagnosis, you will be offered further consultation with other specialists.
A healthy vagina contains protective bacteria that are part of the immune system. Infection or imbalance can still occur. Sexually transmitted infections such as chlamydia, gonorrhoea and syphilis must always be treated. Thrush is treated when symptomatic. Bacterial vaginosis or aerobic vaginitis can also cause imbalance and significant discomfort. Microscopy of a discharge smear can diagnose these quickly so treatment can start.
