Ovulation stimulation

No waiting time

During an investigation for involuntary infertility, it may be revealed that you have issues with ovulation. With irregular menstruation, it can be more difficult to conceive because it is during ovulation that a woman has the opportunity to become pregnant. Read more about ovulation stimulation below.

How ovulation works

During regular menstruation, a mature egg is released from the ovaries approximately once a month. This usually occurs about 14 days before the onset of menstruation. Once the egg is released, it needs to be fertilized within a day. However, sperm can survive in the fallopian tubes for up to five days.

Not everyone experiences regular menstruation. Some have irregular or sparse periods. For example, there are medical conditions, such as PCOS, which can sometimes result in irregular menstrual cycles. If menstruation is irregular, it can be more challenging to identify ovulation.

Medical ovulation stimulation

If difficulty in conceiving is due to irregular menstruation, there is the possibility of assistance through ovulation-stimulating medication. This involves using medication containing hormones to stimulate ovulation. You can receive treatment with tablets or injections. Ultrasound monitoring is conducted to ensure that too many ovarian follicles have not been stimulated to mature. Afterward, the egg can be fertilized through sexual intercourse or insemination using either partner's or donated sperm.
