Refertilization, or vaso-vasostomy, involves the reversal of sterilization, specifically vasectomy. This procedure aims to restore fertility after sterilization. The reasons for pursuing refertilization may include a man entering a new relationship with a shared desire for children or a couple deciding to change their family plan.
If the vasectomy was performed less than five years ago, the chances of successfully restoring the passage of viable sperm through vaso-vasostomy are very promising.
How does it work?
The operation is performed under anesthesia and with the help of a microscope, allowing the vas deferens to be reconnected through microsurgery. The procedure takes about 1.5 hours and is done as an outpatient operation, meaning you don't need to stay overnight at the hospital. You can go home once you have recovered from the anesthesia. Follow-up includes a sperm test approximately 6 weeks after the operation.
