NIPT

NIPT (Non-invasive prenatal testing)

What is NIPT and what can it detect?

As an expectant parent, you have the opportunity to undergo NIPT (Non-Invasive Prenatal Test). The test reliably detects the likelihood of chromosomal abnormalities in the fetus. The only thing required for the analysis is a blood sample, and the test poses no increased risk of miscarriage.

NIPT can be performed from week 10+0 and onward. Before undergoing NIPT, it is recommended to have an ultrasound to confirm the gestational week. No samples from the placenta or amniotic fluid are needed for this type of analysis.

What does the test show and how is it done?

NIPT-testet is a relatively new method for assessing the likelihood of a chromosomal abnormality in the fetus. A blood sample is taken from the pregnant woman, and the fetal DNA circulating in the woman's blood is then analyzed.

The blood test is risk-free, simple, and reliable

The advantages of NIPT are numerous. It provides a reliable result, is non-invasive, and only small portions of the fetal chromosomes need to be analyzed in the prospective mother's blood, instead of assessing the levels of pregnancy hormones in the woman (as with, for example, the KUB test).

How is the sample collected?

At C-Medicals clinics in Stockholm and Uppsala, you have the possibility to take the NIPT test. The sampling is done in collaboration with fostertest.se in Gothenburg and has a reliability of up to 99 percent. Chromosomal abnormalities in chromosomes 13, 18, and 21, as well as the sex chromosomes X and Y, are included in the basic test. At our clinic in Uppsala, there is also the possibility of an extended analysis of microdeletion DiGeorge syndrome, 22q11.2.

The test is taken on-site in our safe and calm facilities in Stockholm or Uppsala and is then sent to Gothenburg for analysis. Reliability and accuracy are of utmost importance during sampling, and at C-Medical clinics, the expertise is of the highest standard.
